Massage Therapy

Massage therapy

Many types of massage offer benefits beyond simple relaxation. Our therapeutic massages target headaches, neck and back pain, anxiety, pregnancy related discomfort, sprain strains, decreased joint mobility and much more. Woodland Wellness Center offers a number of different massage techniques to most optimally help your body.

Craniosacral Massage

This is a form of gentle healing therapy that works on the skull, spinal column and cranial muscles. This massage technique helps reduce the restrictions on nerve passages and is used to reduce stress, neck and back pain, migraines and other ailments.

Neuromuscular Therapy Massage

Neuromuscular therapy is a form of soft tissue manipulation that aims to treat underlying causes of chronic pain involving the muscular and nervous systems. This medically-oriented form of massage addresses trigger points (tender muscles points), circulation, nerve compression, postural issues, and bio-mechanical problems that can be caused by repetitive movement injuries.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is best for giving attention to certain painful, stiff "trouble spots" in your body. The massage therapist uses slow, deliberate strokes that focus pressure on layers of muscles, tendons, or other tissues deep under your skin. Though less rhythmic than other types of massage, deep tissue massage can be quite therapeutic -- relieving chronic patterns of tension and helping with muscle injuries, such as back sprain.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage is a practice that has been around over 2500 years. It involves the recipient to be on the floor mat fully comfortably clothed and the practitioner to apply stretching and pressing on muscle groups while adding movement over joints and limbs much like having yoga done to you while simultaneously enjoying a massage. The practitioner does the work and the recipient’s job is to breathe.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Massage

During pregnancy, your body goes through major changes. Prenatal massage can help with these changes by reducing stress, decreasing arm and leg swelling, and relieving muscle and joint pain. Massage may be particularly helpful during a time when medication and other medical options may be more limited. Using specially designed side lying position, the massage therapist will help get you comfortable for this type of massage. After birth postpartum massage is available to help your body heal from labor and adjust to the demands of motherhood. Massage can start as early as the first trimester and adjustments can be made for high-risk pregnancies.
